It's that time of year again. Ahh, October--arguably the best month in sports. The MLB playoffs, NFL and NHL regular seasons, and my Northeastern Huskies take the ice for yet another promising first half, followed by an almost guaranteed letdown at the end of the year (and I'll love every second of it). That said, it's officially time for me to make my postseason picks for this year--not too surprising, overall.
American League Division Series:
Series 1: Red Sox over Angels in 4.
Recent history has shown that no matter how good the Angels are in the regular season, they absolutely cannot beat our Red Sox in the playoffs. I don't care if they won 162 games in the regular season, they'd still find a way to get smoked by the Sox in the ALDS. Plus, the pitching matchups favor the Sox (if you disagree, I'll elaborate), and the Red Sox bullpen is much improved without David Aardsma and his 6ish ERA.
Series 2: Rays over White Sox in 5.
The Rays luck continues (for now) into the playoffs. That starting pitching is inexperienced in the playoffs, granted, but they only have to use their best 3, and that's better than the Pale Hose top 3. Plus, they always seem to get key hits from random people in late innings no matter who they play--so I think they'll win the DS, but in Game 5 on a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth by some guy they added to the postseason roster last minute.
National League Division Series:
Series 1: Brewers over Phillies in 5.
Ummm....I had to pick another upset that wasn't the Sox over the Angels? Maybe?
Series 2: Cubs over Dodgers in 3.
That's right. A 3 game sweep by the Cubbies. This has a lot to do with the fact that the Cubs are the best team in the NL, and the Dodgers were the worst team to make the playoffs.
American League Championship Series:
Red Sox over Rays in 6.
The Rays attempt to make it a series with a bunch of flukie hits in key spots, but in the end, their luck runs out, and the actual kings of the AL East prevail.
National League Championship Series:
Cubs over Brewers in 5.
The Cubs are literally clown stomping the NL in the playoffs this year. Rightfully so, because nobody could even hold a candle to them in the regular season. Why should it change?
World Series:
Cubs over Red Sox in 7.
The Sox take the clown stompers to 7, but they can't hold off the emotion of the Cubs going for their first series win in 12 centuries, and end up losing a heartbreaker. Plus, the Sox winning is just getting boring for the MLB by now. They have to let some other teams have some glory.
