I Love Hating Al Ovechkin

He knows he's the best player on the ice- and he's right. He wants you to know he's the best player on the ice- and you will. The man I'm talking about is Washington Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin. After watching him live from the first row of the balcony of the TD Bankwhatever Garden, now more than ever I can see that this guy is the best player in the NHL. --To be fair I can't name even close to 1/4 of the guys in the NHL and have never seen Crosby play in person, but still Ovechkin was freakin impressive--

He ended the game with just the one goal in over 22 minutes of ice time, but he changed the game in ways you can't see in a box score. For example, every player assumes he'll lose a one on one match up with Ovechkin because A. he's nasty and B. he's huge. I could go into more detail (actually I couldn't... I don't know enough about the finer details of hockey), but its clear he's the best player on the ice.

The crowd booed him every time he touched the puck. He's got a big tooth gap, is one of the goofier guys in the league (as evidenced by his attire at last year's all star skills competition), and without a doubt the ugliest. The dude is just fun to watch, and even more fun to hate. We'll be seeing him in May.

For real?

If the Bruins play the Caps in the playoffs- I'm going.

That'd be sick. You've always got a place in DC.
