Tufts Calls It Right

Back in April, during my last bi-annual short post, I insisted that the New England Patriots require a new, young deep-threat receiver.

Ryan Tufts responded with the following statement:

Maybe we should go away from the set offense, and use ummm.... what's it called... hold on.. oh yeah! a tight end! that actually plays every down!

Bill listened -- after watching the Pats preseason and the opener, I am pumped for an offense featuring Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. It's pretty obvious that Bill took the Patriots' red zone woes last season very seriously. Gronkowski is large, in charge, and surprisingly deft for such a big dude. Hernandez looks more like a receiver that can block surprisingly well. The Pats haven't had a serious TE since Ben Coates -- now that we have two, and Tom Brady back to 100 percent with that beautiful head of hair, it's a significant wrinkle for any defensive planning against the Pats.

Depending on how we do against defenses that aren't completely under-performing like the Bengals, we might have ourselves a nice season coming.

It's hard not to like our tight end trio so far. Hopefully these guys can actually block too, so the Pats can at least look like they might run the ball once in a while.

Also, Brandon Tate could be that new wide receiver you're looking for. He was highly regarded coming out college last year, but was injured for practically the whole season. With Tate and Edleman(whenever he's healthy) backing up Moss and Welker the Pats have a solid WR crew.
