Over the past week I've had the pleasure of attending not one, but two Boston Bruins games. I don't think I've ever done this in my life, in fact, I'm entirely positive that I haven't. This year's edition of the Bruins is more set up to succeed than any Bruins team in my entire life time, and I can't contain my love for them.
At a time when the reigning NBA champ Boston Celtics are floundering a bit (ok a lot a bit), the Patriots are sitting at home watching the playoffs, and the Red Sox... well its January, there's only so much buzz about them, the Bruins have stepped into the New England spotlight. Games are being sold out, people are wearing Bruins apparel in public again(oh yeah), and the cheapest tickets for a regular season game against the hated Montreal Canadiens are selling for $80 (the cheapest!). Even if they weren't plowing through the Eastern Conference like 2007 Patriots (woops), I'd still be excited about this team just because of the way these guys play. With all of their young talent, and driven veterans, it seems the Bruins have the perfect mix. And people are watching.
Other Bruins related notes:
David Krejci somehow wasn't invited to the rookie-sophomore game even thought he's a top 15 guy in scoring- IN THE LEAGUE. Who even heard of this guy before last year?
If Blake Wheeler continues to improve, and Kessel maintains the pace he established early in the season, the Bruins could have two true goal scorers- guys that can skate with the puck, burn defenders, and embarrass goalies all by themselves. (Not that playing on lines with Krejci and Savard hurt).
Saturday afternoon Justin Williams of the Hurricanes did something, I didn't see what, that set off Matt Hundwick. He just went off and it was fun to watch.
I don't know what is going to happen with Patrice Bergeron. Coming back from a second concussion- is a third inevitable? I mean I'd love to have him on the ice, but the thought of another concussion has got to be running through his mind, and I don't see how it won't affect his play.
Marco Sturm is now out for the year, Bergeron is concussed, and Lucic is day to day with an undisclosed injury. Those three amount to a very productive line out due to injury for the B's. Hopefully Lucic can come back soon. How many injuries can the team sustain?
