SURPRISE! Papi Used 'Roids

I have a couple things to say.

1. Is anybody surprised? Rhetorical question. Nobody is in the least bit surprised.

2. Does this taint the 2004 and 2007 championships? Again, rhetorical question. Absolutely not. Pitching won those championships.

3. Do the Yankees still have a list 10 times as long as the Red Sox of steroid users? Of course. So Yankees fans can keep their comments to themselves until 18 more Red Sox players are exposed. Yes, maybe bringing the Yankees into this was unnecessary, but isn't that what a rivalry is all about?

4. Do I give a shit? No. Who does? Everybody's using steroids, just accept it. The only stat that impresses me anymore is average, maybe on-base percentage. Steroids don't help hand-eye coordination. That's the only way I can enjoy the game anymore, to realize that batting .300 in the MLB is a goddamn hard thing to do.

The end. Papi used steroids. OMFGwhogivesashit.

I'm not surprised.

Am I bothered about this? A little, BUT! Why does everybody (fans, the media, and especially the players) make such a big deal about using steroids WHEN THEY WEREN'T EVEN AGAINST THE RULES!?!?!?

David Ortiz broke no MLB rule in 2003 when he used steroids, nor did A-Rod, nor Manny. McGwire, Sosa, Clemens, Bonds... none of them cheated. They were doing everything they could within the rules to help their teams win.

Does the steroid era make comparing baseball's all-time greats more difficult? Absolutely- but so didn't the lowering of the mound in 1968, the size of ballparks, the ever changing strike zone, and the difference in training regimens and nutritional knowledge that we have today compared with those of 100 and even 50 years ago.

I love hating Arod just as much as the next guy, but guys like him, Ortiz, McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, and Clemens are really getting the short end of the stick here. We loved them when we were great and never questioned their legitimacy. I rooted for all summer long in 2001 for Bonds to break McGwire's record-- it was fun to watch. Now he's being blackballed by the MLB, the media, and fans across the country because we all have a selective conscience.

Give me a break.

Am I foolish to believe Papi has been clean since 2004 or whenever MLB's steroid policy did begin? It would be cool if we were totally un-juiced when we won.

Bonds never helped his case by coming off as a complete asshole, but I agree -- who gives a shit?

In my opinion, it'd be a different thing if it's a more physical sport like football.

It's 100% because we're all sports fans and we like to give each other shit. That's legitimately the only reason I gave my Yankees fan friends guff for A-Rod. I honestly could not have cared any less, but when you can tear into your rival like that, you do it. We should be expecting the same from Yankees fans, but I take it with a grain of salt. I know they don't really care. Or at least, they shouldn't.
