Shitting the Bed- Patriots Style

Sunday's lost to Miami was just depressing. 38 to 13... quite obviously unacceptable. Nothing good came out of that game. Our front seven, supposedly the strength of the team allowed more than 200 yards rushing, and probably couldn't have stopped Drew Bledsoe had he taken Miami's hand offs on Sunday. Matt Cassel looked scarily like a rookie a rookie/backup quarterback... well I guess I should have expected that.

I think we caw now officially consider Laurence Maroney injury prone. Is this guy really injured or his just a wimp? It seems like there is something wrong with this guy every week. You would think that someone that has the same haircut as Marion Barber, went to the same college as Marion Barber, and was drafted rounds ahead of Marion Barber, could stay on the field and run like say... Marion Barber. You'd be wrong.

THROW THE DEEP BALL TO RANDY MOSS. They're isn't any good reason not too. [If you think Randy Moss can't beat double, or dare I say it, triple coverage, find the highlight of Randy torching Miami with his 50 yard elbow catch last year.] Even senile John Madden in his game tells you (with annoying frequency) to throw Randy the deep ball twice a quarter. Come on Josh McDaniels... not one?! I simply don't understand how unarguably one of the five best receivers in the NFL doesn't get more looks. Yeah I know he draws extra attention and opens up lanes for other receivers, but come on, he is RANDY MOSS, throw him the ball!

I know Miami traditionally gives the Patriots trouble, yet I somehow expected the Pats to take care of business at home, even without Tom Brady. Last year's trouncing of Miami was more the exception than the rule as I can vividly recall the Fins handing the Pats a 21-0 beating two years ago, as well as the ridiculous Monday Night comeback game when Troy Brown got burned for the game wining TD. I don't think we took them lightly, but Miami definitely came to play today.

Bottom line- the Patriots can't afford to lose teams like Miami if they're going to make the playoffs.

Random thought: Dice-K is now 18-2 with an ERA under 3.00. Those are ridiculous Pedro Martinez numbers, yet I don't remotely as comfortable with him on the mound as I did with Pedro.

Addition: McDaniels has apparently forgotten about the existence of running backs. WE HAVE THEM. USE THEM TO SET UP THE DEEP BALL TO RANDY. You'd expect an NFL offensive coordinator to know things like this.

You'd also expect a defensive genius (as BB is supposed to be) to be able to stop a college-style option offense at least once out of 15 times. However, it could not be done. I honestly thought we were playing Navy for a while there. And we lost to them. How embarrassing.

Comment on the random thought:
I feel extremely confident with the Dice man on the mound. He walks guys, but he always manages to get out of it, and his BAA is like .210. Assuming he doesn't walk 2 guys an inning (which he usually doesn't), he won't give up many runs if the guys coming up after the walk can't get a hit. He's solid, and once he stops nibbling the number 9 batters, he'll be Cy Young material.

I agree with the Randy Moss issue. Cassell checked down and took the short route every play when Randy had one on one coverage. Remember when Randy sniped that TD catch in the middle of Miami's double coverage? I do, and it was sick. So, in other words, Randy will catch any ball one on one. I would rather try that once and throw an INT than never try it.

Maybe Bill is is afraid because Cass is untested, who knows?

I hope we rip SF a new one...

In all fairness to the man, Matt's starting numbers so far are better than Brady's were when he took over from Bledsoe. Give it time -- what we've seen with Tom for the past couple of years is not only his talent, but an offensive system that was slowly tailored to him until, boom, the 07-08 season.

That's not likely to happen instantly with Matt, and nobody should expect his starts to be even as decent as they have been (and let's face it, even with his couple of years in the league, it's not like he's had a chance to get much in the way of actual experience). But more than blowing other teams out of the water, Bill knows how to tailor offenses to win games. And that's what we're going back to now, and to tailor it to a new quarterback with different stren--er...well, weaknesses mostly, will take time.

But yeah, seriously, go for Randy sometimes or we're going to end up with Oakland Randy.

First, seeing Imran with a comment was a nice surprise. I didn't know he joined. Who else is in the blog these days?

Second, Imran, I met your sister over the summer. She was at Billy Bob's house.

Third, Imran makes a good point. I have faith in Bill.

I invited Bill Riley and Ben, but neither has joined. Klav, Alex, and Choor are in, but... they don't really do anything.

Also- if we don't get Randy the ball soon... will he still be interested in playing football? We he start playing lazily? I seriously hope not.

Also2- We've been sucking in the red zone... why don't we throw it up to Randy... hes like 6'4"? I don't know.

6' 4" without his arms raised above his head...

and without jumping.... I bet he can get 11 feet... if I can get 10 and half... Randy Moss can absolutely get 11 feet... if not more
