Bring On the 'Canes!

It's official. One of the greatest, and certainly most surprising, comebacks I have ever seen is complete. Down 3-2 with 80 seconds left in regulation, the Carolina Hurricanes somehow put two past Marty Brodeur, and punched their tickets to Logan in the process.

Flipping between the Celtics OT thriller and the Sox late-April-unimportant-but-still-interesting game against the Indians, I decided to take a peek over on Versus, to make sure the Devils had secured the win and the Penguins would be coming to town. Lo and behold, on the ESPN- copyrighted-but-I-can't-think-of-another-name-for-it BottomLine, I see "Hurricanes" in yellow, "Devils" in white, and a 4-3 score. I couldn't even believe it. Not only is this most likely our best matchup (4-0 against these guys [outscoring them 18-6], vs. 2-2 [I think] against the Caps/Pens), but we probably don't want to run into the Penguins before we have to in the playoffs.

Not that this will be an easy series--the Hurricanes have some great players, led by should-be superstar Eric Staal and goalie Cam Ward. However, it can only benefit the Bruins that these 'Canes will be a bit tired after going 7 tough ones against the Devils, and the Bruins are well-rested, but still sharp (see: scrimmages in practice) due to their round one housing of Les Habitantes. I won't make a prediction, because I'm the ultimate Boston sports jinxmaster, but I will say this--don't be surprised when our boys get a little challenge from the High Winds/Heavy Rain, and definitely don't be surprised when this series is much more entertaining (for everyone else, since sweeping the Habs is pretty damn entertaining for us) than the first of this year.

I'm actually getting into the NHL again, after a...8?...year hiatus as far as interest in the sport is concerned. Front running is the best way to get back into anything!
