Ellis Hobbs for two 5th round draft picks from the Eagles?
What the hell?
Am I the only one that thought he was finally becoming a decent cornerback and a pretty potent threat on special teams? I guess so.

I don't know what the deal is here. Hobbs definitely (not even close) isn't an elite corner, but wasn't he at least our best corner?
I do like how we traded two 2009 3rd rounders for 2 second rounders next year- that's cool.
As for the actual picks- I don't really follow college football, so I know nothing about these guys.
Why didn't we a take a linebacker any higher?
I think our highest pick being spent on a strong safety basically means that Rodney Harrison won't be coming back. I guess they figured since they took Mayo in the first round last year, they may as well develop him and get him in shape to show a rookie the ropes before they spend another high pick on a linebacker.
Also, when I posted this, I totally forgot about how we now have Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden, not to mention arguably the second best cornerback out of the draft. So no, I guess he wasn't our best cornerback when he got released. Losing Ellis Hobbs pretty much sucks only because he was a Pats rookie who has been developing a little every year. Oh well, thems the breaks.
Side note -- I can't believe I didn't see this coming when Pats took Bodden and Springs.
Our best corner is now Darius Butler....maybe.
We picked up a bunch of DB depth in the offseason and in the draft.
Losing Hobbs won't necessarily help us, but I can't see it hurting us too much either. He's a good guy though, and I wish him luck in Fluffya.
Maybe it's because I basically missed a whole season... but who is Leigh Bodden?
Also- we dont need to develop Mayo. He's developed. He's going to get better, but he's already a MAJOR player in our linebacking core. Defensive Rookie of the Year man, come on.
I like Hobbs, but I can't forgive him for not being closer than 10 yards to Plaxico Burress on that TD catch. And! (this is getting off topic a bit) but if Asante Samuel was so nasty, why wasn't he covering Plax to being with!?!?! Huh huh!?!?
Clearly I'm not over that game.
Like I said, I don't particularly know a lot about these guys, but I trust in Bill. If he wants to draft 3 defense tackles even though we only we only play one at a time, then let him. He just knows.
Welcome Jake Ingram, you are the new Lonnie Paxton. After Paxton really never screwed up and made some memorable snow angels in the 2002 playoffs, you have some big shoes to fill.
Leigh Bodden didn't have such a great season with the Lions, but before that, he had some fairly successful seasons with the Browns. Before you get confused about the word "successful" and "Browns" being in the same sentence, hear me out!
He had a good 2005 season with some nice numbers, where he also kept Chad Johnson to 2 catches for 22 yards in all the division games.
That was 4 years ago, so we're looking at a potential underachiever, but everyone thought Randy Moss's best days were behind him too.
The way I look at it, we have two cornerbacks who have experience covering arguably two of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and doing it fairly successfully -- Springs and TO, Bodden and Ochocinco.
I'm pretty excited/hopeful about Darius Butler too.
And yeah, I'm still bitter about that -- how do you play zone on someone like Plaxico in a situation like that, let alone blow the coverage?
